After Windows 11’s launch, Microsoft shared a Windows 11 PC Health Check application which scans your PC to determine if it’s eligible to receive the major Windows update. It was pulled down soon after due to disagreements about what the requirements for your system are.
The software is now available again for download and you can check whether your system is eligible. You’ll need a 64-bit processor with 2 cores or more, one GHz of clock, four GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It is even more limited by the requirement of TPM 2.0 feature to be enabled through the BIOS settings, if it is supported.
There are however some that meet the minimum specifications but will not be compatible with Windows 11. These include the CPUs from Intel’s 7th Generation lineup and some of AMD’s second-generation Ryzen chips.
Microsoft took note of the issue, however, and has stated that it will check whether users who are part of the Insider’s program running the mentioned CPUs are experiencing problems having issues with Windows 11. If it is not, it will add AMD’s 2nd-gen Intel 7th-gen and AMD’s 7th- Ryzen CPUs in the official compatible hardware. However, that is likely to occur after Windows 11’s stable release. Windows 11 comes around.
At present there are only a few Intel 7th Generation chips are suitable – Core I7-7820HQ, Core X and Xeon W series are able to be running Windows 11 officially. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 850 or later is also compatible. Some AMD’s 2nd generation Ryzen CPUs are whitelisted as well.
